Family-Friendly Chinese New Year Fun 2019
Here is your family friendly guide to where and when you can enjoy the Chinese New Year Celebrations with children including parades, dragon dances, Chinese street food and children’s Chinese craft workshops this February 2019 in Liverpool, Manchester and Chester.
Celebrate Chinese New Year in Liverpool
The main Chinese New Year Celebrations Liverpool will take place on 10th February in the city centre around Nelson Street, Berry Street and Duke Street
The start of the Year of the Pig will be celebrated with Dragon & Lion Street Parades and a spectacular firecracker display. There will also be food stalls, street entertainment, cultural events, family workshops, a fun fair and a pyrotechnic display. It’s always very lively, crowded and noisy at times.
Chinese New Year Activities at Liverpool Museums
There are a number of family friendly activities on the theme of the Chinese New Year taking place at the Museum of Liverpool, Merseyside Maritime Museum and Lady Lever Art Gallery between 1st & 24th February. Take part in a variety of family friendly Chinese craft sessions, listen to Chinese stories and marvel at the lion dance!
Celebrate Chinese New Year in Manchester
Manchester will be holding the biggest Chinese New Year celebrations in the UK outside London 7th – 10th February.
There will be thousands of red lanterns decorating streets around the Albert Square and Chinatown areas. You’ll be able to try Chinese street food and enjoy live music, traditional Chinese performances, a funfair, fireworks and see the famous dragon parade as it winds spectacularly around Manchester City centre. Manchester’s Chinese New Year celebrations are always vibrant and fun but it gets very busy so leave prams and buggies at home. This year see the giant piglet covered in gold coins!
Make a Meme at Manchester Arndale
The Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art are running a children’s craft workshop in the Arndale Centre on 10th February. It’s a free drop in workshop where you’ll learn traditional craft techniques such as printing and calligraphy to create your own meme to take home with you.
